Synopsis

Designed to feel like an old grimoire, it blends traditional bookbinding with creative experimentation. Some pages feature my own sketches—like fae folk and ritual circles—while others incorporate unique materials such as personalized inks, salt, ash, and shells, adding texture and symbolism to the book. While some artwork is sourced to complement the aesthetic, every page is carefully curated to reflect my vision.

About the book

Molly Roberts once said books are both beautiful and dangerous, not just vessels of knowledge but also culture. Despite historical attempts to destroy them, books remain intimate objects we carry, touch, and cherish. Similarly, a grimoire is a record of magical knowledge, much like an artist's sketchbook, documenting progress, techniques, and creative choices. Colors become potions, layouts like spells. With this in mind, I created a book blending tradition and technology, combining handmade drawings, printed typeface, gold and silver outlines, and natural materials like flowers, leaves, sand, and ash.

Grimoire Cover

Materials

The book cover was repurposed from a leather notebook bought at Camden Market. To fit A4+ pages with a 2cm binding, the spine was adjusted, using extra leather to add more pages. For an aged look without dyeing, 90gsm parchment paper was chosen. Watercolor backgrounds were printed to keep pages flat. Handmade red, black, blue, and purple inks were crafted using charcoal, Arabic gum, dragon blood resin, and lapislazuli, alongside traditional handmade glue.
